Allographic: “Other Voices” featuring John Lyons and Dauda Ladejobi
18th October 2011 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
It’s a simple concept really – a nice function room above a pleasant pub, a stage, a microphone, a bunch of lovely people, and some words.
So – come and show us what you’ve got: step up to the open mic or enjoy the talent on display (ideally both, of course!). If you’re feeling shy about the stage, there’ll be chances to get scribbling for our mini-poetry competition, and we’ve even got poetry amanuenses at hand if you’d like your words heard…
We have featured sets from local luminaries John Lyons and Dauda Ladejobi. Your host for the evening will be Fay “nice cane” Roberts.
Our features are from two ends of a spectrum:
John Lyons is an award-winning artist and poet, cook, and workshop leader. Taking inspiration from Caribbean folklore, imagery, dialect and rhythm, John’s poetry and paintings explore mythology, movement, food and experiences in his native Trinidad and Tobago and in the UK. Check him out on http://www.johnlyons.org/
Dauda Ladejobi, also known as s.G (solid. Geish) is a 19 year old rapper/ poet/ actor from the outskirts of London, currently studying in Cambridge. Dauda won the May heat of the Hammer & Tongue Cambridge 2011 season, and you can find out more on http://www.soundcloud.com/swatmansolid
We’ll be recording the night for future podcasts and CDs, and we’ll be telling you all about Small Word, a poetry-short-story-photography magazine of petite loveliness that we’ll be launching in Cambridge over the next few weeks, open for submissions as we speak! 🙂
