Allographic: Other Voices featuring… a glorious spoken word miscellany!
24th March 2013 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
So, what’s Other Voices then? It’s a simple concept really – a nice function room at the top of a pleasant pub, a stage, a microphone, a bunch of lovely people, and some words. And free snacks! Entry is a mere £5/ £3.50 for concessions and performers (though this may change due to the nature of the show – see below). Doors are at 7:30pm and the gig kicks off at 8pm.
So – come and show us what you’ve got: step up to the open mic or enjoy the talent on display (ideally both, of course!). If you’re feeling shy about the stage, there’ll be chances to get scribbling for our mini-poetry competition, and we’ve even got spoken word amanuenses at hand if you’d like your words heard…
Usually, we have open mic and one or two feature acts – either poetry or storytelling – but it’s Fay’s birthday on that date, so she’ll be inviting as many of her favourite poetry/ storytelling types who can squeeze into the venue to give 5-10 minute features, in a really self-indulgent party atmosphere. And there’ll be open mic on top if you fancy it, along with some kind of Fay-compatible cake.
And we’re chuffed that J.S. Watts will be running a workshop for us: “The Art of Getting Published” at 3pm in The Fountain beforehand (a mere £5/ £3.50 concessions – http://www.facebook.com/events/398294340255608/). If you come to that, you’ll get in free to the evening show if you perform, and concessionary rate otherwise…
We’ll be recording the night for future podcasts and CDs, and we’ll be theoretically showing off issue #5 of Small Word, a poetry-short-story-photography-artwork magazine of petite loveliness that we launched in Cambridge in 2011!
