Allographic: Other Voices featuring Hollie McNish and Joshua Seigal

28th April 2013 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

So, what’s Other Voices then? It’s a simple concept really – a nice function room at the top of a pleasant pub, a stage, a microphone, a bunch of lovely people, and some words. And free snacks! Entry is a mere £5/ £3.50 for concessions and performers. Doors are at 7:30pm and the gig kicks off at 8pm.
So – come and show us what you’ve got: step up to the open mic or enjoy the talent on display (ideally both, of course!). If you’re feeling shy about the stage, there’ll be chances to get scribbling for our mini-poetry competition, and we’ve even got poetry amanuenses at hand if you’d like your words heard…

Our two features are the kind that warm the cockles of our open-hearted audiences:

Hollie McNish an internationally-renowned poet who has appeared on stages from tiny Cambridge pub rooms to Glastonbury Festival to a tour of Australia. Her poetry influences span hip-hop, grime, and sixties protest songs, while her lyrics themselves span at least five languages. As well as performing her gorgeous poetry all over the country and running workshops and poetry demonstrations with not-for-profit organisation “Page to Performance”, she has played with drum ’n’ bass acts like Beardyman and Jungle Drummer, and was named a Great Briton in 2010! http://www.holliemcnish.com/

Josh Seigal writes and performs for both adults and children. In 2012 he performed the only children’s poetry show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and is taking a new children’s poetry show up to Edinburgh in 2013. He regularly visits schools, where he performs his poetry and runs workshops, and has done work with organisations such as the Poetry Society and Apples and Snakes. In the evenings he talks at adults at spoken word and comedy nights. http://www.joshuaseigal.co.uk

And we’re chuffed that Josh will be running a workshop for us: “Monkeying Around” at 3pm in The Fountain beforehand (a mere £5/ £3.50 concessions – http://agw_april13.eventbrite.co.uk to reserve your place in advance). If you come to that, you’ll get in free to the evening show if you perform, and concessionary rate otherwise…

We’ll be recording the night for future podcasts and CDs, and we’ll be showing off the latest issue of Small Word, a poetry-short-story-photography-artwork magazine of petite loveliness that we launched in Cambridge in 2011, open for contributions to the next one as we speak!
