Allographic: Open Mic featuring Sophia Blackwell and Riaz Moola
26th January 2014 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Order tickets via Eventbrite: http://agojanuary14.eventbrite.com/?aff=efbevent
So, what’s Other Voices then? It’s a simple concept really – a nice function room at the top of a pleasant pub; a stage, a microphone, a bunch of lovely people, and some words. And free snacks! Entry is free, but we take a donation (i.e. pay as you like). Doors are at 7:30pm and the gig kicks off at 8pm.
So – come and show us what you’ve got: step up to the open mic or enjoy the talent on display (ideally both, of course!). Pretty much anything goes, as long as you respect the audience and the ethos of the night!
Our two features are both raconteurs and poets known for mesmerising audiences:
Sophia Blackwell is a much-published author of poetry and short stories, and a much-travelled performance poet and event host. She’s currently working on her second novel and second poetry collection in between appearing on many and various stages of the UK. Her style combines lyrical sensuality with an ineluctable honesty and rhythmic brilliance.

Riaz Moola is a skilled poetic raconteur who won the December 2012 Hammer & Tongue Cambridge heat winding a series of impassioned, intricate rhymes into a Hemingway-worthy story of revenge. Riaz enjoys dressing like he’s at a very casual funeral, pretending he has a gym routine, and writing poems about samurai, breakups and the ocean. Find out more at http://riazm.tumblr.com/
We’ll be recording the night for future podcasts and CDs, and we’ll be showing off our latest pamphlets and other poetry collections, along with the latest issue of Small Word, a poetry-short-story-photography-artwork magazine of petite loveliness that we launched in Cambridge in 2011.
