Allographic: In Other Words Fundraiser // J.S Watts Book Launch

29th March 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

We are delighted to present a delicious array of spoken word – storytelling, poetry, and improvised theatre – in aid of the “Once Upon A Time”, a Collaborating Cambridge Art Exhibition, and “In Other Words”, the forthcoming Fringe Festival for Cambridge.
Features will include:

Fay Roberts
Founder of Allographic; Fay Roberts is a peripatetic percussive performance poet by night and a professional projector by day. She runs the Cambridge branch of the Hammer & Tongue slam series, along with directing the Spoken Word section of The Free Fringe in Edinburgh 2013-14 and again in 2016. In 2014, she “won” the Edinburgh Fringe Anti-Slam (where the worst poem and performance with the lowest points wins a terrible prize). She will write poems about anything or anyone.

Uppahar Subba & Tim Knight
Tim Knight is not Oscar nominated or Academy acclaimed, but does have Twitter. Website: coffeeshoppoems.com

“Ups is a nerd for words. Having graduated from university last year is trying really hard to adult.”

Abi Palmer
Abi is a writer and performer, currently exploring the relationship between linguistic and physical communication. Experimenting through various combinations of poetry, immersive theatre, dance, film and philosophy of science has led to a number of different interactive performances, including the current ‘Jukebox’ series, a trio of one-on-one “micro-immersive” poetry performances, commissioned by the University of Cambridge and Roulade Magazine.

Jack Bateman
I am a solo performer and poet, I love working with issues surrounding gender, identity and sexuality. With my performances I explore the audience/performer relationship and like to push the boundaries of when does an active audience become a performer themselves? My poetry/spoken word tend to be autobiographical, and adopt the energy and physicality that I put into my performances to elevate to new levels!
What am I about?

Allographic are also incredibly excited to be hosting the book launch of local poet and author J.S Watts!

J.S.Watts’ poetry and prose appear in publications in Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the States and have been broadcast on BBC and Independent Radio. She has published five books: two poetry collections, “Cats and Other Myths” and “Years Ago You Coloured Me” , plus a multi-award nominated poetry pamphlet, “Songs of Steelyard Sue”, (all published by Lapwing Publications) and two novels, “A Darker Moon” – dark literary fantasy, and “Witchlight” – paranormal romance, published in the US and UK by Vagabondage Press. See www.jswatts.co.uk for further details

Her latest collection:

Years Ago You Coloured Me (ISBN 978-1-910855-15-7) is a poetry collection echoing with things, times, places and people lost and not quite lost, as well as those never lost while memory lingers. These are poems of influence and resonance, both past and current, capturing personal and broader histories, and the shadows that sometimes follow. What is history, after all, if not selective, recorded memories? The past tells stories as we choose to recall them. The personal is there, plus the wider matters that shaped it. We have only to remember to remember. That is an art.

Included amongst the poems in the collection are: Bonedancing, which was shortlisted for the 2008 Wells Literary Festival International Poetry Competition; Green Rushes, nominated for a 2011 Pushcart Prize and View From Sheep Field Barn, Much Hadham, which won won third prize in the Yeovil Literary Prize for Poetry 2015.

So come and join us, revel in the artistry, and help raise money for two wonderful community cultural events, about which you can find out more on the night.
