Cambridge Bardic Trials 2016

19th June 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Tickets only £3 (including booking fee) from http://junction.co.uk/cambridge-bardic-trials
It’s time to choose a voice for Cambridge!

In a brand new initiative, and as part of In Other Words, the alternative literary festival, we will be electing a new Cambridge Bard – open to anyone living within a 26-mile radius of the centre of the city, and chosen by the people of the city.

In among the competition will be performances from fantastic spoken word performers, along with a wonderful feature set from headliner Sally Jenkinson, supported by Apples and Snakes. (Earlier in the day, Sally will provide writing and performing workshops as part of In Other Words.)

The role of the town Bard is to create and perform original pieces, attend and support local events and annual festival and to celebrate the customs and achievements of the town and its people. The Bard of Cambridge is the voice for the people.

Any word weaver (poet, storyteller, comedian, dramatists, singer/songwriter) with a voice and the power to use it can apply. If you word like to be a voice for Cambridge, fill in this form: http://bit.ly/cambard16

Every year, a new Bard is elected through the Bardic Trials, the first of which will take place as part of the In Other Words festival on 19th June 2016.

The Bardic Trials is an open competition before a live audience and a panel of carefully selected judges. The judges and the trials aim to represent the different aspects of Cambridge and what it means to be a weaver of words.

Each Bard will hold the position for a year and a day; their final duty will be to pass on the title and oversee the inauguration of their successor.

Entry to the trials
– Entrants must be over 18 years old
– Entrants must live within a day’s walk of Cambridge (approx 26 miles)
– Entrants must not be bound by over civic roles (i.e. current laureate)
– Application close at midnight on the 5th June, late applications will not be accepted
– During the Bardic trials, competitors must come prepared to give a statement of their Bardic Intentions (how they will develop the role of Bard and what it would mean for them) and to present up to 3 pieces of original work.
