Allographic: “Other Voices” featuring James McKay and Mal Faloon
13th February 2012 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
It’s a simple concept really – a nice function room above a pleasant pub, a stage, a microphone, a bunch of lovely people, and some words.
So – come and show us what you’ve got: step up to the open mic or enjoy the talent on display (ideally both, of course!). If you’re feeling shy about the stage, there’ll be chances to get scribbling for our mini-poetry competition, and we’ve even got poetry amanuenses at hand if you’d like your words heard…
We have featured sets from Cambridge-based Mal Faloon and London-based James McKay. Your host for the evening will be Fay Roberts.
Our features are two wicked wordspinners:
James McKay has travelled a lot and, like a lot of people these days, doesn’t live where he’s from. He started writing and performing poetry about a decade ago. Since then, his poems have found their way onto Radio 2, thanks to poetry-and-prog-rock outfit The Morris Quinlan Experience, into a book called The Quiet Circus, and a lot of very different rooms. He regularly associates with the poetry mayhem that is Utter Spoken Word… Find out more at http://www.mckaypoetry.com
Mal Faloon is alive and is not yet dead. She reads tarot during the day and poetry at night. She, too, is not living where she’s from, has had her poetry and short stories published in a variety of places (including that Small Word magazine), and has performed spoken word, comedy, and music in a variety of venues and countries.
We’ll be recording the night for future podcasts and CDs, and we’ll be telling you all about Small Word, a poetry-short-story-photography magazine of petite loveliness that we launched in Cambridge in December, open for submissions for issue #2 as we speak! 🙂
